Kara Jean Brei, MA, NCC, CPSS is the founder of Asylum Advising & Asylum Advocates.  She is currently the Project Coordinator of the South Mountain WORKS Coalition.  That organization is focused on trauma-responsive substance misuse prevention in the historically disenfranchised South Mountain Village neighborhood where Kara Jean currently resides.  Kara Jean has her undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Performance Art from Arizona State University and her MA in Counseling for Northern Arizona University.  Kara Jean is a Nationally Certified Counselor who entered the field of behavioral health in 2008.  She has a variety of premier behavioral health experience from high-security hospitals and correctional institutions to luxury addiction rehabilitation centers.  Kara Jean provides workplace culture consulting and personal education for individuals, couples, and families.  She also hosts recovery education classes here at Asylum Advocates.

 

SHEREE WARE

Vice President, Asylum Advocates

Sheree Ware is the SACLAZ Subcontractor for South Mountain WORKS Coalition and the VP for Asylum Advocates. Sheree is a Phoenix, Arizona resident, born and raised. Sheree graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health.  Sheree is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and an Alumnus of Phoenix College, where she was a Success Coach. Sheree also has 20 plus years of working and volunteering in the diverse community of HIV/AIDs.  Sheree believes that education and communication are power. These things are what drove and continue to drive her passion for a better future, not only for her children, but the community as a whole.

ANGELA WILSON, LCSW

Therapist, Sex Addiction Specialist
Treasurer, Asylum Advocates

Angela is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked as a therapist since 2016. She was born and raised in Arizona and remains a part of the Tempe community after attending ASU for her undergraduate degree. She continued at ASU for her Master of Social Worker, graduating summa cum laude. Her experience includes work at inpatient facilities, intensive outpatient facilities, and in private practice.  She has worked with people who have a variety of mental health concerns.  She is trained in PIT (Post-Induction Therapy), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (Dialectal Behavioral Therapy), and is a CSAT-C (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist Candidate).  She has extensive training and experience working with various types of trauma, including childhood trauma.  She currently runs a men’s group at an outpatient facility and accepts referrals from Asylum Advising.  Angela is also Treasurer on the Executive Board of Asylum Advocates, and a Mental Health Advisor for MoodConnect Group Inc.  We appreciate her continued support in efforts for mental health access for all.

 

CHRISTINA MARCENKUS

Secretary, Asylum Advocates

Christina is a member of the neurodivergent and physical disability communities, diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, PTSD, and Depression/GAD. A veteran of the classical vocal performance music industry, Christina began her higher education at the Juilliard School, and now holds two Masters qualifications, in Opera & Linguistics (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama: MA with Honors (merit)) and Vocal Music Performance (Guildhall School of Music and Drama: PGD. Cert with Honors (Merit)). She performed internationally, from Hong Kong to Oslo, over the past decade, and has parlayed these global experiences into her current work in the travel industry. She is passionate about mental healthcare reform, with a particular focus on care for women, members of the LGBTQIAP2+ community, BIPOC, and people with physical disabilities.  Christina facilitates Asylum Advocates' Music as Meditation Class.

Executive Board Member | Asylum Advocates

Robert is the IT Director of New Freedom, Administrative Director of Gold Canyon Heart & Home, and owner of While Dreaming PhotographyTotal Tech Solutions, and Total Tranquility Healing & Massage. Robert has lived experience with drug addiction and incarceration which inspired in him a desire to change the way reentry looks and works. He has worked with local government efforts to examine current issues and help map a path to justice reform. He is a graduate of the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts and an experienced yoga instructor, massage therapist, Reiki master, and sound healer. His passion is for service work. He volunteers his services regularly and is an enthusiast of consciousness and vibrational theory.
